A newly emerged adult Monarch on a milkweed plant.  This one's a female.  Males have thinner black veins and a dark patch on each hind wing. A convenient tree makes a nice backrest while munching on lunch. A small patch of white stands out among the green lichen that covers the trunk of this Maple tree. A Ring-Billed Gull flying against a backdrop of autumn leaves. These River Gums on the Greenough Flats in Western Australia show the effects of long term exposure to strong ocean winds. Call Jonni and he comes  running straight at you...unless, of course something catches his attention, like a leaf, or an interesting smell, or a fly buzzes past in front of his face.  Watching an energetic spaniel bounding around a vast grassy field after a fly is quite something. Two mallards enjoying a peaceful outing in the late afternoon sun.
